Wykorzystanie oczyszczonych ścieków do nawadniania upraw może pomóc zmniejszyć lub nawet wyeliminować niedobór wody, wspierać rolnictwo i chronić zasoby wód gruntowych. Należy jednak podkreślić znaczenie właściwego zarządzania ponownym wykorzystaniem oczyszczonych ścieków w rolnictwie, a także regularnego monitorowania parametrów jakości wody, gleby i produktów rolnych. Oczyszczone ścieki nie mogą być wykorzystywane w rolnictwie bez odpowiedniego oczyszczania i regularnego monitorowania wszystkich fizykochemicznych i mikrobiologicznych parametrów jakości. W celu zminimalizowania zagrożeń dla zdrowia związanych z ich ponownym wykorzystaniem do nawadniania, zdecydowanie zalecamy wprowadzenie systemu okresowej oceny ich jakości, uświadomienie rolnikom, którzy używają tego rodzaju wody do nawadniania swoich upraw, korzyści z niej płynących oraz uświadomienie konsumentom potrzeby mycia i dezynfekcji produktów rolnych przed ich spożyciem. Aby zagwarantować ochronę zdrowia publicznego, konieczne jest przestrzeganie surowych norm i przepisów obowiązujących w Algierii.
